Herbert D. Kruger Jr.


passed away at home in Enola on December 24, 2007.
Herb was born in Shipoke in 1935, to late Herbert, Sr. and Mae Ballew Kruger.
He was preceded on death by his son, Bradford Kruger of Dover, PA.
Herb is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Laverty Kruger; his sister, Carol Kruger Craver
of Mechanicsburg; his son, Herbert Kruger III of Colorado; his daughter, Denise Gebhard and her
husband, Dan of Enola; four grandchildren, Derrick Gebhard and his wife, Melissa of Harrisburg,
Dane Gebhard, and Dillon Gebhard, both of Enola, and Ellie Kruger from Pittsburgh.
Herb was a proud graduate of Enola High School from the Class of 1953. He attended Penn
State Extension York, PA. He enjoyed playing saxophone and clarinet in the Maynard McKissic
and Ed Stansfield dance bands. After retiring from Pitney Bowes with 35 years of service as a Field Service
Manager, he began his own computer business in Enola.  Herb was always active in the community.
He was a member of Emmanuel  United Methodist Church Enola.  He served as the Scout Master of
Troop 158 in Weiglestown, PA and was a member of the Dover Lions Club, Enola Sportsmen Association,
American Legion Post 751 Enola, the Enola/East Pennsboro Alumni Association,
and the East Pennsboro Foundation. In 1999 Herb founded the Historical Society of East Pennsboro. He wrote
a number of publications and gave many presentations on local history. Over the years his contributions developed
the foundation of a successful organization. As a result of his efforts he received many awards including: in 1999 an
Acknowledgement and plaque from the Enola/East Pennsboro Alumni Association for work in maintaining membership
records, in 2000 the East Pennsboro Community Service Award, in 2004 the Penn Ambassador Award sponsored by
 the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, in 2004 the Milton E. Flower Historian of the Year Award from
the Cumberland County Historical Society, in 2007 an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from the Central
Pennsylvania College.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2007 in Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Enola.
 Burial will be in Perry Heights Cemetery, Marysville. Viewing will be held from 10-11:30 a.m., in his church.
